Our hospitals are interested in setting up a tray return station in our cafeteria with shadow box displays to show what is recyclable and eventually the hope is to incorporate composting down the road. We are running into concerns with the Life Safety Code only allowing a max of (1) 32-gallon trash can per 64 sq. ft. and the concern is that composting would not be included in the recycling waiver, for clean recyclable waste. We wanted to place containers side by side - 2 for trash, 2 for recycling, and 2 for composting (eventually).
What are other hospitals doing in their cafeterias to comply with the code requirements but still have multiple waste receptacles?
